Mezzanine & red+white have become involved with a great organisation called Scarf.
Scarf borrows restaurants to provide relevant hands-on hospitality training and mentoring to marginalised young people who face barriers to fair training and employment opportunities, streamlining their path to work in the hospitality industry.
Scarf seasons include Monday Night Dinners, where people can dine on a two course set menu for $35 per head.
As a Scarf customer, you are an important part of the training process - allowing the trainee to practice their skills and increase their confidence.
Scarf is a not-for-profit social enterprise.
The mentors over the 10 week training period are people who currently work in hospitality in Melbourne. The mentor's role is to provide relevant, up-to-date knowledge about the industry while the trainee builds their skill base. The mentor also provides a connection into the hospitality industry, which is often the key to finding employment.
Our involvement and sponsorship includes providing samples of wine to the Scarf program so that the trainees learn about wine styles, sensory evaluation, food & wine pairing and wine service.
We also provide an amount of wine to be served and sold throughout the season, at the Monday night dinners. The current dinners are at Easy Tiger and the following wines from the portfolio's are being poured;
Blue Pyrenees NV Luna Chard/Pinot Noir, Crowded House SB, Mitchell Riesling, Giant Steps Chardonnay, Chapel Hill Pinot Grigio, Rockbare Shiraz, Red Claw Pinot Noir, Hollick Cab Sauv, Mitchell GSM, Two Hands Moscato, All Saints NV Muscat
Make sure you find out more at www.scarfcommunity.org
The next series of dinners will be held at Three Bags Full in Nicholson St Abbotsford from Monday October 31st.
