Its wine awards season in New Zealand with many wine shows and competitions having released their results in the past month.  Hunter’s Wines celebrating their 30th vintage are still catching the eye or more the taste buds of many wine judges throughout NZ with a bunch of outstanding medals.

Marlborough Vitners Hotel hosted the inaugural Marlborough Wine Show Dinner on Saturday night, Hunter’s winemaker Inus Van Der Westhuizen and his wife Liesel attended the dinner with Hunter’s Wines taking out the TROPHY for best bubbly with its Miru MiruTM NV (MiruMiru Maori for ‘bubbles’).  GOLD medals were also awarded to Hunter’s Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Hunter’s Marlborough Riesling 2009 and Hunter’s Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2010.

‘I believe it’s a great addition to the wine show scene in New Zealand to establish regional shows, showing the larger wine producing regions like Marlborough have differing sub regions which can be recognised and showcased through The Marlborough Wine Show’ Jane Hunter says.

‘We are wrapped with the awards from the show which also include silver medals for Hunter’s MiruMiru Reserve 2008, our oak-aged Sauvignon Blanc known as Kaho Roa 2009, Riesling 2010 and the popular Late Harvest Riesling – Hukapapa 2009 and look forward to the show becoming more prominent in showcasing the sub regions of what Marlborough has to offer the world’ Jane says.

Hunter’s Marlborough Pinot Noir 2009 has also picked up GOLD in the New World Wine Awards 2011 and silver medals for their Riesling 2010 and Gewürztraminer 2010.

Hunter’s Marlborough Riesling 2010 picked up GOLD at the New Zealand International Wine Show 2011 with silver medals for their Chardonnay 2009 and Pinot Gris 2011.

Also recently at the Spiegelau International Wine Competition 2011 Hunter’s picked up Silver medals for their MiruMiru NV, Gewurztraminer 2010, Riesling 2010 and Sauvignon Blanc 2010.

Now with over 160 gold medals on the list and over 30 trophies Hunter’s has 30 years of winemaking under the belt.  Work in the winery has certainly calmed down after the 2011 harvest but is never finished with bottling and getting the new vintage wines ready to be shipped out the door!

‘We are looking forward to showcasing our 2011 vintage wines’ Jane says
